Playing Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) at the moment and I have to note that I watched the anime series first before playing the game. What I remember from the TV series is slightly different from the actual game, for instance in the TV series Welkin escapes imprisonment to save his sister Isara, while in the game Isara rescues Welkin from being temporarily detained. The differences between the two will definitely go from there no matter if you played the game first or watched the series first. I have a feeling that since I enjoyed the TV series, I'll definitely like the game -- despite the slight differences in the story. Pretty much, if the game's OP is any indication, the events occurring near the end should be the same.

I just got the game, so I haven't gotten very far into it, but the way battles play out is a mix of real-time and turn-based battle features. For example, when you're on the battlefield (the game dubs it "Action Mode" or almost first-person view), moving characters around during the player's turn are in real time and if an enemy soldier spots one of the characters you are controlling they will open fire and vice versa if it is the enemy's turn. With that said, this being a tactical turn-based real-time strategy RPG game, it goes without saying that I'm going to spend many hours on this.
